About pages that don't read like a template

The AI-built about page is a mission statement, three value cards and a team grid. These do something else.

An about page is the one place a company can sound like itself, and the template version wastes it: a mission line, three icons with three values, a grid of headshots. Discover has 215 about pages from hand-made sites. Here are a few that take a different route.

Tell the story, at length

Basecamp's about page is a long piece of writing under "Where we came from", centred, with almost nothing else on the page. Every's opens with an essay, "What Comes Next?", set in a serif on a pale blue page.

Or draw it

Notion tells "A story of tools and the future of work" with its own black-and-white illustrations down the page. Headspace's about page is bright yellow with its orange character, matching the product.

Put the people first

Pentagram's about page is mostly a grid of partner portraits in black and white, with a short paragraph above. Linear opens with a large video of one of the team, under "Building tools for the next era of product development".

Say what you believe

Tailscale pairs "We're building the new internet" with a section of guiding principles on a dark blue band. Warp follows its headline with "Our Ethos" as plain text. Both read as positions, not slogans.

To use one: open it in Discover, copy the prompt on its page, and ask your agent to rebuild your about page with that structure and your own story.
